"With his finger on the pulse of the youth market, producer Neal Moritz delivers a fast-paced, creatively awesome single camera 1/2 hour in which music plays a starring role. Shasta McNasty introduces us to three young men (Scott, Dennis and Ran) who make an art form out of mediocrity. They have all, too, accumulated semi-celebrity status as a hip-hop band, but are content struggling to keep their lives status quo, as opposed to working hard to cross the threshold into fame and fortune. In the familiar multi-camera landscape of sitcoms, Shasta McNasty blows the roof off what's expected in primetime television. With bigger than life characters and clever musical devices, it promises broad comedy with clever social observation. Though the guys' instincts aren't always to do the right thing, and they usually make a situation worse before it gets better, they are fiercely loyal to each other and have the philosophy that life has a way of working itself out."(UPN promotional materials)
Read: Crude, witless, and occasionally dementedly hilarious slacker comedy developed by middle-aged men with their eyes on the Friends market. Think hip-hop The Monkees.
"On the verge of signing a record deal with an almost major label, childhood friends Scott, Dennis and Randy, better known as rap music group Shasta McNasty, spend their days laughing and lounging in a "phat" loft near the boardwalk of Venice Beach. (-must speak to publicity department about trying to use words like, "phat" in their releases.) Every day is a party for the guys of Shasta - whether they're spying on the buxom blonde (Internet favorite Cindy Margolis, in a recurring role)(Didn't she post a clip of the show on her site?) across the street or hatching schemes ("hatching schemes!" what is up with this publicity person?) to stall the pizza delivery guy in hopes of getting a free meal. And while they have a knack for screwing things up, this offbeat crew (whoever wrote this forgot the word "wacky!") always emerge unscathed and prepared for their next adventure."(Columbia Tristar promotional materials, including the italicized comments)
