A rather lame ABC fantasy-com with great special effects but an obnoxious premise and star: A recently deceased teen named Marty -- who on a bet ate a six-month-old hamburger found under his bed -- plays guardian angel to his best buddy, Steve. Marty's exuberance over his newly discovered magical powers is perpetually reined in by his supervisor, a disembodied "The Head" who, it is carefully explained, is not God but "God's cousin." That's as funny as the show gets: a sad waste of comedic talents like Ron Glass and Conchata Ferrell. After the swift demise of fellow Friday night spot You Wish, veteran Jerry Van Dyke was parachuted in, no longer a grandpa genie but a mere grandpa who was, however, the only other human able to see Marty. This didn't help.
