    It is the year 1193. King Richard "the Lionheart" of England is held prisoner in an Austrian castle. A handful of his men reach home charged with raising a ransom for his release, amongst them is Ivanhoe, who also wants to make peace with his father, Lord Cedric of Rotherwood Castle, for leaving his family to fight in the crusades. Prince John, in his fortress of Torquilstone Castle, has his necromancer Mordour try to kill Ivanhoe, but without success, so they decide to destroy the things close to him, and sack Rotherwood Castle. Meanwhile, Ivanhoe rescues Rebecca, a woman who was about to be burned at the stake as a witch, and Odo, an apprentice of the magician Kazan, who join him in his quests. They first seek advice from Friar Bacon, who sends them to Fingal, the last of the great druid magicians. He directs them to find the Serpent's Egg in the Devil's Tower, giving them the Staff of Runes to assist them. Braving great perils in the tower, they take the egg, and journey to Torquilstone Castle to destroy the fiend that Mordour is conjuring up at the imminent lunar eclipse, and rescue Friar Bacon, who has been abducted by Mordour.

    Ivanhoe robs King John's mint to help raise King Richard's ransom, which is being collected by Lord Sirus. Rebecca & Odo take the money to Sirus in York, while Ivanhoe goes to see Fingal, who instructs him on how to find the Ultimate Sword, a weapon with the magical power to tear the fabric of space and time. However, Mordour is also on its trail, and gets there first, using it to travel to Rotherwood Castle in the time of Ivanhoe's infancy in order to kill him - Ivanhoe follows him and tries to thwart his intentions. Meanwhile, Rebecca & Odo arrive at Lord Sirus's house, but they are then betrayed, and by someone close to the cause.

    Falco discovers that Ivanhoe is going to a meeting with Baron Du Bois, an agent of Queen Eleanor. Prince John orders Ivanhoe killed. When Ivanhoe eventually meets Du Bois, he is informed that Prince John has hired an assassin, called The Sparrow, to kill him. Odo goes to the cave of the dead magician Khazan, his former master, to steal his Book of Spells. Using it, he casts a love spell on Ivanhoe, but the object of his desire is not Rebecca, as intended, but Miranda, a woman who they meet at an inn, who says she has been robbed on her way to become a lady-in-waiting to Queen Eleanor. Ivanhoe escorts her on her journey, but it turns out to be a trap set by The Sparrow. Ivanhoe decides to rob Prince John of the extortionate taxes he has been collecting, but the plan goes awry.

    A wraith, an invisible evil spirit, jumps out of the depths of the forest and possesses Odo, threatening his life and soul, and ultimately Rebecca. It instructs Ivanhoe to find him the Seal of Sanjurain to restore him to independent life. Ivanhoe goes first to Fingal, who says it is guarded by Higg, a mountain spirit. There, Ivanhoe has to go through a series of trials. Meanwhile, the possessed Odo is spreading a plague in a nearby village. Ivanhoe returns with the Seal, and uses it to draw the wraith out of Odo, into the open, where it is most vulnerable.

    A gem-trader is murdered in the market at Rotherwood by what appears to be Ivanhoe. Ivanhoe's father, Lord Cedric, offers a 200 crown reward for his arrest. The impersonating creature wants all Ivanhoe holds dear, and receives help from Prince John and Mordour. Ivanhoe is captured, and sentenced by his father to execution. Rebecca & Odo go to Fingal, who gives them magical aids to track down and fight the evil being. They race to return to Rotherwood before the sentence is carried out.

    Amongst a traveling circus is a man, Jandar, with a golden bird, which has the mysterious power to tell people's fortunes. When King John hears of it, he wants his fortune told, and Mordour wants the bird itself. Falco kidnaps the bird and brings it to Prince John's castle. Jandar enlists the help of Ivanhoe, Rebecca & Odo in rescuing it, saying it is his fiancée, Elerianne, who has been bewitched. The four enter the castle as part of a troupe of jesters and acrobats, penetrate to where the bird is being kept, and take it back. Rebecca then wants to undo the spell to return the bird to its human person. Jandar confesses how she came to be bewitched by the Rock Witch, and the four of them set off to visit her lair in the Black Caves by the sea.

  10. "Dragon Singer"

    The legendary minstrel Blondel arrives in England accompanied by his young daughter, Beatrice, with a message for Ivanhoe. He has been betrayed and is immediately captured by King John's men. Prince John learns of the location of King Arthur's treasure, that was hidden in a cave by Merlin. What Mordour knows but doesn't let on initially is that it is guarded by a dragon, called Draco, that will roast alive anyone who attempts to steal the treasure. When Falco attempts to seize it, he barely escapes with his life. Mordour then leads another attempt, using Beatrice, who can sing even more beautifully than her father, to sing the dragon to sleep, so allowing them to loot the treasure. Ivanhoe has learned of the treasure too, from Fingal, but first must rescue Blondel, who is mortally injured in the successful attempt. Having used his magic to help Blondel onto the road to recovery, Fingal transports Ivanhoe, Rebecca & Blondel to the cave, in time to intercept Prince John's party, and meet the dragon face to face.

  11. "High Elf"

    Odo breaks a stone, releasing a demon which bites Rebecca and a young girl, who fall increasingly ill. Ivanhoe takes them to Fingal to see if he can cure them, and has to send Odo to the Crossways Inn to deliver a contribution to King Richard's ransom. While he is there, Odo meets an elf, A'Lori, who should have inherited the elfin kingdom until it was usurped by his brother, Drayna. Fingal says that the cure is a flower that grows in the elfin kingdom, so Ivanhoe goes in search of A'Lori to help him find it. But Mordour and Prince John are also after him, because of his power to transmute rock into gold, to replenish his treasury, and have captured him. So Ivanhoe has to rescue A'Lori before they can travel to the elfin kingdom to find the flower.

    Mordour tries to summon up Nadred, a black horse from hell who was created by Olwyn. Mordour's aim is to us Nadred to free Morlock from hell and so take his power. As bait for Nadred, Mordour uses special jewels to capture people's souls, including Rebecca's. To stop him, Fingal sends Ivanhoe to Olwyn's stable - on the way, he rescues Queen Eleanor from a group of bandits. But Mordour gets there first, and Fingal & Ivanhoe need all their powers to send Nadred back.

  13. "Boneman"

    Ivanhoe is staying at his father's castle when two young women are killed, and are found to not have a single bone left in their bodies. There is also an incursion into the castle by a band of gypsys, who are encamped locally. They are led by Sandor, who is an old acquaintance of Rebecca's. Ivanhoe follows the killer to the gypsy camp, where they identify him as the mysterious Boneman, but not before the Boneman has kidnapped the Lady Rowena. Sandor joins Ivanhoe in tracking down the Boneman and rescuing Rowena.

    It's Prince John's birthday, and he is holding a party at his castle. A puppeteer has come to entertain his guests, but his puppets are really miniaturised people that he has shrunk with a magic locket. Ivanhoe plans to set fire to the castle so that he can steal Prince John's gold, but when he finds out that Queen Eleanor is visiting the castle, he abandons the attack. Rebecca tries to warn the Queen to escape, so that the raid can proceed. But Rebecca is captured by the puppet master and shrunk to add to his troupe. He then tricks Ivanhoe into his clutches, too. They have to escape in time to save the Queen from an assassin, before they can make off with the treasure.

    Ivanhoe, Rebecca & Odo steal some of Prince John's gold while in transit through the forest, but is troubled by strange visions and dreams. On their way to take the gold to Lord Sirus, to add to King Richard's ransom, they are found by a young man who seems to be suffering from amnesia. Together they try to find the house that Ivanhoe has been seeing, in the Forbidden Forest, previously known as the Forest of the Wolf. When they find it, and the ironsmith and his family who live there, they are attacked by strange creatures, who abduct the ironsmith's daughter, Ruth. They give chase, which leads to a deserted village, and then into some deep caves, where they encounter the creatures who have been causing the trouble. Every fifty years, when a full moon rises on two consecutive nights, these creatures must feed on pure blood. And Ivanhoe has the purest blood of all.

  16. "The Claw"

    Alyssa is the beautiful young daughter of Lord Reginald, who has been in love with Ivanhoe since she was a teenager. Mordour leads her to seize the Claw of Persuasion, which enables the keeper to exercise a strong hold over men, on condition that she enslaves Ivanhoe for him. Ivanhoe receives a message from Lord Reginald asking him to visit him in his castle. When Ivanhoe, Rebecca & Odo arrive, they sense all is not well, and Rebecca finds Lord Reginald imprisoned by his daughter. The three must release Lord Reginald, return the Claw to its rightful, secure resting place, and rescue Alyssa from the evil path that she has chosen.

  17. "Black Tree"

    Deep in the forest, an ancient Black Tree is struck by lightning, awakening Asmodis, an evil witch incarcerated inside. To regain a human form, she entices Rebecca to her, and then ensnares a young girl, Mary, who is fleeing through the forest with her brother. To counter Asmodis, Ivanhoe calls upon Fingal, who tells him he needs to find the fabled golden Axe of Jurgen, to attack the tree without stengthening Asmodis. Mordour learns of this, and arrages an ambush at Jurgen's ruined castle. Baron Du Bois and Rowena ride out from Prince John's castle to warn Ivanhoe, but arrive only when the trap has been sprung, and a fight is underway. They beat off the attackers, seize the Axe and ride back to the Black Tree to face Asmodis.

  18. "Kha"

    Baron Phillipe de Mere, a grand master of the Knights Templar, obtains two important relics from the Holy Land: a mummified Egyptian called Kha, and a splinter from the Holy Cross. His henchman, de Greel, kidnaps Mordour and takes him to the Templar castle, to get him to raise Kha from the dead. Ivanhoe feels summoned on a quest by the holy relic, and his sword becomes enchanted. In return for his help, Mordour demands that the knights kill Ivanhoe, which they try unsuccessfully. Despite Fingals efforts to stop him, Mordour succeeds in bringing Kha back to life. Kha is immediately entranced with an image of Rebecca, seeks her out and brings her back to the castle. Ivanhoe & Odo must rescue Rebecca and destroy Kha, but although they soon locate Rebecca, they find Kha is not an easy foe to subdue.

  19. "Stormguard"

    Mordour appears to Fingal as Talban, the last of the hermit druids, and tricks him out of the Stormguard Grimmery scroll. He uses it to summon up the mighty Stormguard Fortress, which entices a young girl, Rena, into it, who is followed by Rebecca. Ivanhoe & Odo enter to rescue them, and Prince John also enters, to find the fortress's power, which Mordour has promised him. The fortress manifests its visitors' fears and desires, and they encounter King Richard, Austrian soldiers, willing wenches, cannibalistic hags, and the gigantic, terrifying Direrogg. Mordour and Fingal are forced to work together to help the four escape from the fortress before sunset, when it will disappear into eternity, leaving its power behind with the possessor of the Grimmery scroll.

    Mordour conjures up two shadowraiths, Pallidus & Umbra, to track down and kill Ivanhoe. Rebecca & Odo meet them when they rescue them from a pub brawl. Meanwhile, Baron Du Bois is carrying documents to Queen Eleanor that will show that her son Prince John has been plotting to kill his brother, King Richard. Prince John is desperate that the documents should be intercepted, and gives orders that the baron is to be found and killed. Umbra turns Rebecca into a shadowraith, and she takes them to where Ivanhoe is helping Baron Du Bois recover from the injuries he has sustained in a shipwreck. The paths of the hunters and the hunted converge on the castle of Lord Balfour, where Ivanhoe must battle to kill the shadowraiths, and ensure the delivery of the documents to Queen Eleanor.

    rc: Prince John, Falco

    On the orders of Prince John, Falco releases the psychopathic mercenary Streng from de Montidier's Templar Citadel on Rockmoor Island, and instructs him to kill Ivanhoe, for which he needs no encouragement, as Ivanhoe killed his brother many years before. Streng takes with him their ice alloy dagger, which can freeze its victim's blood. Just missing Ivanhoe at a wrestling tournament, Streng follows him to Rotherwood Castle, and tackles him in man-to-man combat. Just as Streng is about to deliver the final blow, Rebecca intervenes and takes the fatal stab wound of the ice dagger. To save her, Ivanhoe & Odo must obtain the counteracting fire alloy dagger, in a race against time, for which they have to travel to Rockmoor Island, before returning to Rotherwood Castle, where Falco has now laid a trap, and all the while with Streng in close pursuit.

    Draco the dragon warns Ivanhoe of approaching danger, from the time of Merlin: he must find the Dawn Sword, Excalibur, before it falls into the hands of the evil Morgan le Fay and Mordred, the brutal son she bore by King Arthur, also known as the ‘Thunderknight’. Odo wins a ‘treasure’ map at cards in the Crossways Inn, and together with his old friend, the horse-thief Hegg, he follows it. They find a magical rune-stone, where Morgan le Fey has already drawn Excalibur from its place of rest, and released Mordred. Excalibur's powers are limited, as Merlin had removed the three jewels from its handle, which enable it to wield ultimate power. Ivanhoe and Rebecca must race against Mordred to find the three jewels, which remain hidden in the remains of Arthur's kingdom.

    The deceptively beautiful, but cruel, Countess Adel is trying to get close to Prince John, and part of her plan is to identify those Saxon barons still loyal to King Richard. Torturing one of Lord Rothermere's servants reveals that Lord Cedric of Rotherwood, Ivanhoe's father, is the only one who knows them all. Her men ambush Cedric and Rowena in the forest, kidnap him, and take him back to Adel's castle. When the Countess fails to extract the names from him, she has Rowena kidnapped and brought to her dungeons, too. Meanwhile, Ivanhoe, Rebecca & Odo are trying to identify who is responsible for the kidnappings and killings. When they suspect it might be the Countess, they get Odo a position in her castle to spy on what is going on. When he fails to make a rendezvous, they realise they are in a race against time to enter the castle, find Odo, and rescue Cedric and Rowena, but can they get past the Countess's set of fiendish booby-traps on the way?

    rc: Mordour, Fingal

    Mordour traps Rebecca in the cave in which the Stonegod is entombed, in order to entice Ivanhoe, and then relieve him of the Skull of Alcazar, which he has found. The Skull would give Mordour power over his enemies, and especially, enable him to open the road from hell to release his ancestor Morlock. Ivanhoe has left the Skull in the care of Fingal, but it possesses him, and turns him to a black wizard. Meanwhile de Montidier and his Knights Templar are also after the Skull, for their own purposes. With the help of Higg, the spirit of the hills, and some of Friar Bacon's gunpowder, Ivanhoe must vanquish the Stonegod, turn Fingal, free the petrified Rebecca and return her to life again.

    Mordour prophecies that Queen Eleanor will encounter a deadly danger at the next crescent moon. Prince John is anxious lest anything befall her, as she is guaranteeing a new loan to him, and he instructs Mordour to keep her from harm. Lord Cedric thinks that Rowena will be safer in a nunnery, and instructs Ivanhoe to escort her, against her will, to the St Faith's Convent. On the way, he rescues a damsel in distress, named Shameer, who decides to entery the nunnery too. Once there, she starts bewitching the nuns, and absorbing their life force. She then gets her hands on Rebecca. Mordour warns Ivanhoe of the danger to the Queen, but first he must rescue Rebecca at the nunnery. Shameer has decided to go for Queen Eleanor, and Ivanhoe, Rebecca, Odo & Mordour follow her to Prince John's castle. But there is a terrible price to be paid for rescuing the Queen from Shameer's clutches.
