My only experience with childhood is from my own childhood,
since I never had children of my own. As a college
professor, I sometimes have to try to evoke for 2000-era
college students what the 1950s were like, and I always
dispair, because the best I can come up with is, "It was
like another world, another planet altogether, with no
relation or connection to the present day and present
culture."
