New doctor Gina Simon can't bring herself to tell a relative that her husband died in post-op due to the surgeon's negligence. Jeffrey's daughter convinces him to operate on a child (which brings back memories of Austin's daughter convincing her to operate).

    b: 30 Sep 99 pc: 6ABM02 w: Gardner Stern d: Michael Pressman

NOTE: A very blatant attempt to tug at the viewer's heartstrings. The characters react without motivation. Geiger's typical rant comes off as a tantrum without Kelley as scriptwriter.

Monahan [ Unknown ], Jeanie Hackett [ Unknown ], Bryan Clark [ Dr. Alonzo DeGriff ], Shishir Kurup [ OB/GYN ], Octavia L. Spencer [ Nurse Jane ], Edythe Davis [ Nurse Nancy ], Dawn Landon [ O.R. b: 14 Oct 99 pc: 6ABM04 w: Randy Anderson d: Mel Damski

NOTE: Chicago Hope breaks barriers, becoming the first television program to use a certain 4-letter obscenity. Many will claim this will break down walls and permit more artistic freedom. My question is 'How?'. Television is hardly artistry, it's merely a means of generating audiences for commercials. If America wants obscenities in their programs, they'll get them. I'm reminded of an episode of The Simpsons set in the future where one of the characters remarked "FOX converted to a hard-core sex network so gradually I never even noticed" or something to that effect.
  5. "Humpty Dumpty"
gs: Graham Beckel [ Det. Doug Majeski ], Molly Hagan [ Bettina Wallace ], Doran Clark [ Unknown ], Myra Turley [ Unknown ], Julie Osburn [ Unknown ], Callan White [ Unknown ], Richard Gilbert-Hill [ Unknown ], Sharon Omi [ Nurse Price ], Michelle Wolff [ Paramedic ]

    rc: Stu

The Hope staff faces mortality when confined to the hospital by an outbreak of Bubonic plague.

    b: 11 Nov 99 pc: 6ABM07 w: Mark Richard d: Michael Schultz

NOTE: Though the casual viewer may confuse this with the 1st season episode "The Quarantine" wherein Hope staffers humorously face mortality when confined in the hospital by a plague, rest assured they're not the same.
  8. "The Heart to Heart"
    gs: Laurie O'Brien [ Mother ], Jessica Stone [ Alicia Geiger ], Kavi Raz [ Dr. Primasseri ], Michele Azar [ Mrs. Lindsey ], Nathan West [ Unknown ], Joseph Hodge [ Neelan ], Luck Hari [ Sri Lankan Surgical Assistant ], Mike McColl [ Maury Damkroger ], Ariel Felix [ Anesthesiologist ], Stuart Smith [ Heart/Lung Tech ], Jean Montanti [ Nurse/Recepcionist ], John Cappon [ Paramedic ], Tim McFadyen [ O.R. b: 9 Dec 99 pc: 6ABM09 w: Randy Anderson d: John Tewkesbury

NOTE: Though this sharply resembles episode #33 as well as a 3rd season ER episode, this differs in that the doctors aren't placed in any direct danger (thereby eliminating any drama).

Hanlon clashes with a supervising doctor over admitting pro bono cases. Her patient, an Asian woman, may not be treated because of cultural superstitions (we've only seen this a dozen times over the years).

    b: 6 Jan 00 pc: 6ABM10 w: Marjorie David d: Steve Gomer

NOTE: This is getting really old. Hope main characters are altruistic saints. Hanlon enjoys doing pro bono surgeries which angers mean hospital bigwigs. All the main characters recognize the evil bigwig for what he is. It's so utterly predictable and insulting to the viewers.
  11. "Faith, Hope & Surgery"
